I've got a Century on Sat. and no motivation

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've got a Century on Sat. and no motivation

I was planning on riding my first Century next month, but a friend suggested I do a metric century (62 miles) this weekend as a shakedown to figure out my pace and what kinds of things I need. I'm completely unmotived. The weather is supposed to be beautiful, my bike is running fine, I did a hard ride Tuesday and should be ok to go Saturday, I just don't feel like doing it.

Motivation anyone?

I was gearing up for my first century as well after doing a metric every week for a month. If you don't have the motivation don't do it. Keep riding and training and when you feel the time is right hammer it out

Quit giving it a name and just go ride. Where I live, we don't give our height in hands, our weight in stone, or our ride distances in kilometers. YKMMV.

Just go. Once on the bike you'll be glad you went.

Do you ever get up, feel like you can't be arsed to ride, still pull on your gear head out the door and within 5 minutes feel glad to be alive and on a bike?

Now, "give me an H"....."give me a T"...."give me an F"........

if you don't have motivation, why do you ride?

Bicycle riding is a mental thing first.
You got to have the desire to ride.

If you don't have it, don't ride.

you'll regret it more if you don't do it but wished you did, than if you did it but wished you didn't.

on most early morning rides i have been dragging my feet to dress up and get onto the bike, but within 2 mins i get all giddy with excitement and eventually can't stop until my legs scream at me. just go and you'll get motivated.

The best motivation for cycling is to have it taken away from you all together. To wit:

Ha, I guess slowly and imperceptibly I am getting fatter as I sit here.

I think I'd rather just do some shortish rides this weekend. No reason to pay $30 and be forced to do something I don't want to to just for the sake of doing it.

quit whining and just go ride, the weather in MD/mid atlantic this weekend is supposed to be aces. most centuries have bailouts along the way or SAG wagons so if you are too much of a sissymary to continue you can cut it short or get a ride back to your car.
