Has ANYONE owned or even seen a Gavin? I'm starting to worry....

I dropped $1,000 USD on a new Gavin Linea 2009 full carbon fiber road bike the other day. I sprung on it because it looked like a good deal, it being full carbon and having mostly good Shimano parts.

However, in searching for people that have owned/reviewed them, I came up with what seems like the manufacturer pretending to be a reviewer and raving about their bikes. I can't seem to find any reputable sources for this bike.

It comes in the mail via UPS (free shipping) with a total package weight of 24.00 pounds tomorrow. I'm afraid they took 6 pounds of packaging and filled it with 18 pounds of either complete crap for bike or just rocks or something...

Please tell me someone on here owns and loves anything from Gavin...

EDIT: I suppose I should add some links:
Retailer page: http://www.roadbikeoutlet.com/0featu...cing-bike.html
Manufacturer page: http://www.gavinbikes.com/

Also, they say the frame has a lifetime warranty and of course all the parts come with their OEM warranties.. so I don't know...

I looked at the website. It looks fine. It's probably a re-branded bike. It looks familiar to me, but I can't place it exactly.

Looks kinda like a Leader, but not quite right.

Almost nothing on Google.
Good luck.

You my friend, have just encountered your first shill:thumb:

Relax, just wait for the bike and get it assembled...and ride it like you stole it!

I'd buy one...put my 105 10 speed groupset on it and put the tiagra/fsa components on my aluminum commuter bike.

Alexinator 09-17-09 10:03 PM

Well, you guys made me feel a bit better.. I'll surely record every step, from unpacking to assembling to fitting to riding so others can see my experiences with this off brand company.

I'm just hoping for the best. Don't want to be all excited for it to arrive just to get bad news once I peel away the tape or clip into the peddles for the very first time.

I'm sure it will be fine, I agree with previous poster about it probably being a rebranded bike.

That Gavin Linea frame looks really familiar. I can't place what other bike its branded as. Doesn't look like a bad buy.

I've looked at the Hong Kong carbon frames on eBay and once every four or so pages there's one that looks just like that, with a different fork... Of course, I can't find one now or I'd link to it.
It looks fine, good luck, man.

Alexinator 09-17-09 10:27 PM

Maybe you guys are thinking of this one? The Trek Madone series

The TT is a little different, but that seat tube looks very similar. But the front part where the TT meets the DT look quite different.... idk

I think that is where I recognize it one. One of those frames with someone to turn to with warranty issues doesn't sound like a bad deal.

that's not it

Fobdot 09-17-09 10:50 PM

Do more research next time. There may be a reason why Gavin is not seen much.

True we don't see much on the net about them, but that can kinda be seen as a good thing. When you get a bad retailer of any sort on the internet, just a quick Google of their name and wamo you have tons of buyers remorse stories and buyer beware stories. But with Gavin, nothing bad, just not much genuine good either...

Beaker 09-17-09 11:01 PM

The rear triangle looks somewhat like a Synapse IMO. Either way, be sure to post back when you get it.

umd 09-17-09 11:04 PM

It is definitely a common generic frame. You will see tons of them with different names on ebay. Not that it's a bad thing, it just is what it is.

You can bet your bottom dollar I'll be here tomorrow night with updates ;)

Found a better picture of the Gavin - it's clearly not a Synapse.

The closest I can find to that frame is this one on ebay. Looks to be an updated version of that Gavin frame.

Why the squiggly forks?

str8jakett 09-18-09 06:50 AM

I almost bought a Gavin during my research-until-my-head-exploded period before buying my first road bike. I couldn't find anything about them either. The only thing that really kept me from buying was they sold out of my size. Look forward to hearing about your experience though.

To look like a Pinarello I'd guess. But outside of the seatstays and fork, it doesn't look like a Pinarello.

The Pinarello Prince and Paris had that frame and fork design.

primov8 09-18-09 07:55 AM

The frame design is similar to the 09 Raleigh Supercourse and Competition; also, the components used on both the Gavin and Raleigh bikes are just about the same.
