Specialized Price Drop?
The 2010 Model of the Tarmac is priced $300.00 Less than the 2009 model. I see some changes, is it typical for a models components to change? This bike was $3700.00 in 2009? Now it's called the SC Double? The msrp is $3300.00 now. Is this a sign of the economy?
One change that concerns me is the cassette the 2010 is 11-28. While the 2009 model was 12-27. The area where I will be riding most of the time is flat. When I do reach my goal and be able to compete in some races or events it will be in the Annapolis Maryland area. Will this new 2010 11-28 be better for me?
The wheels are now Mavic Ksyrium Equipe.

On flatter terrain, I prefer a tighter cassette, and I don't even use the 12 cog that much. For dead flat races, I use a 13-25 cassette. So for me, a 11-28 would be overkill. I ride a 12-27 around Bethesda/Poolesville MD, which has some hills and that's more than enough gearing; 12-25 would be fine too. I can't imagine that your LBS wouldn't be willing to swap it out at no charge.

Since it's a double (53-39 I assume) I'd ride the 11-28 for a while. You can always swap the rear cog for something tighter when you're ready to race.

I've heard Specialized lowered MSRP's, but not dealer cost. So making them look better to people shopping around, but discounts might not be as good as last years. Also most all '09's are on clearance, ask you LBS if Specialized still has any - you might be able to get a even better deal.

I got my 2009 Tarmac Expert for a discounted $2800. My LBS was able to locate three of them in the Western WA area. Just ask....

I noticed the same thing OP. I ended up buying a 2010 Tricross Comp and it was about $400 cheaper than last years model. Dealer said it was the raw material costs have gone down and they simply passed it on to their customers. But yeah, I'm rather thinking it's the poor economy than anything else.

And along with your Canadian universal health care, you have people waiting for months or years for medical proceedures. Fortunately, your best neighbor has pay for service medical facilities and some of your fellow countrymen (and women) cross the border to get treated without the wait - - if they can afford it or if their medical condition, in their opinion, is urgent.
Nope, we ain't perfect, we do need competition in medical insurance, and tort reform. And at least 2/3 rds of Americans need to get off their fat butts and onto bicycles or some other form of aerobic excercise. Good luck with that one . . . even the kids are fat, playing video games instead of getting out and playing like we did as kids (okay, so I'm an old kermudgin - - but an in-shape one ).

The prices went down because the Global economy has stabilized over past 18 mos. Also, note the frame changes from 09vs10, because there is a huge difference there. Not to mention, the new 6700 Ultegra.

I'm Canadian - I prefer living in US. Higher salaries, lower taxes, cheaper bikes, much better shopping in general. Health care - as long as you work, you'll have coverage! Capitalism is the way to go baby!

From the prices I assume you're talking about the Tarmac Expert.
In 2008 the Tarmac Expert was like $3300. In 2009 they bumped up the price to $3700, switched from their fancier layup to their more basic layup, and as far as I know, improved absolutely nothing other than the pain job.
In 2010 they've simply brought the price back to it's original level, closer to where it's reasonable. It's pretty cool that they upped the carbon level (8r to 10r) - if my friend wanted to buy a Tarmac, that's the level I'd suggest.
So it's not as dramatic as you might think. The Tarmac base still costs the same, I believe, as does the Pro level.

They are dropping prices on mostly the lower lines I think. The Allez Elite that I had originally wanted to buy for my road bike (with entire 105 groupset) MSRP's for $1300, but now the LBS has it for $1100... sadly unlike the other LBS that I used to go to, they don't do trade-ins, even for a 2 month old Allez Sport
