Trainer maintenance
I was wondering what i could do to my 2 year old cycleops magnetic trainer to make it a bit smoother. Trainers suck as is but lately it's been feeling like, as im spinning, half of the rotation has more resistance than the other
Would appreciate any tips, there is a residual stripe on the wheel that touches the tire, surface of that is no longer smooth. Maybe its time to get some rollers.. |
The real solution to your problem is to get a high quality fluid trainer. I used to have a magnetic trainer and was also always frustrated by the inconsistant resistance. I thought that was just how trainers were. I finally bought a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer and kicked myself for wasting time with the magnetic one. A good fluid trainer virtually mimics the resistance of riding outside.

I remember selling my magnetic trainer on Ebay and getting a good price for it. The fall months are a good time to sell a trainer. I bet that lousy magnetic trainer changed hands many times :).
