Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I consider myself to have some expertise in fit for small riders being 5' 1" myself and my advise is to stick with 24" wheel juvenile bikes. I ride them myself.

I like the look of this Trek, https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...s_9_12/kidsfx/ It may not be perfect but it looks pretty good for an off the shelf bike. Trek also had a 26" wheel bike they are selling for kids which I don't like as much. I think its a little bit big but then again its better than adult 26" wheel bikes I've seen.

Your welcome. If your daughters growing fast then you will have to decide what to get although I'm not a fan of this idea of getting a bike that a child will grow into. Just when they get big enough for the bike they have parents often go and get the next size up

Anyway, a 24" wheeled bike is what will fit her now the best. My view is that it will still fit her until she is at least 5' 4". I'm of the view that most people are riding bikes that are too big for them and this then has a domino effect because bikes that are too big are considered "normal".

Yeah, this age group market is woefully underserved. There are very few decent 24' models at reasonable price. The rest are BMX cruiser class pushing a grand. Considering that kids grow out of them really fast, I find it extravagant to spend more than, say, $400.
When my son was 9 1/2, I bought him a Giant Boulder 26' in size XS. He had to beat his older sis off with a stick despite the fact that she has her own bike. He is still riding it, the saddle has been raised constantly, there is about 2' still left to a safety line. Take a look at Boulder SL - these are aluminum. It is possible to find one in unisex color scheme, and it is better to go to LBS to see the frame geometry change from size to size and how much growing room is designed into these bikes.

Good luck and ride safe.

Girl's Bike

Hi there!

I know it's been two years since you've posted this, but a good bike for your daughter would probably be a Townie Electra. They have male and female models. I got mine about a year ago; I love it. It is a comfort cruiser, with gears, and it is a perfect bike....many MANY people have very good things to say about it. The bike runs between $300-400.

Well worth the investment.

Happy Riding,

Ray

Sorry...that's the Electra Townie. Electra is the make, and the model is the Townie.
