Massage Therapy

I wonder if anyone here gets massages regularly as part of their cycling/training/working out. I know the pros do. If you do, what type of massage do you get? Do you get one regularly, or just after a long ride/race?

I've scheduled one tomorrow, a deep tissue massage. I'm now thinking that a deep tissue may be a little too much after my long rides this past weekend. I'm really looking to just help get some soreness out.

Anyway, your thought/experience on the post workout massages is what I'm asking for. thanks!

Of course; anybody who wants to ride faster, recover better, and prevent injury gets a deep tissue massage at least once a month, if not more often. The effects are long lasting.

My wife started a year-long massage therapy training program exactly two weeks ago. It's very important to her training that she practice almost daily. She even has a super-comfy and portable massage table here at home now.

Soigneur, baby.

When I was serious, I would get a massage once in a while. I used to give myself pretty good leg massages. Lying on my back, legs up against the wall. You really appreciate shaved legs then.

Every two weeks a deep tissue massage lower back and legs. My therapist says ideally two days after a major ride.

Not to be indelicate, but make sure you're near a bathroom within an hour after getting a deep rub...:thumb:

I get rubbed @ once every 6 weeks, but use the foam roller and the stick a couple of times a week.

I'm doing some active release work as well, on the hamstrings. Very painful therapy.

Massages will make you a better cyclits but only if you are the masseuse - you will then be able to afford a better bike.

I prefer a happy ending to a massage.

I thought that's what "active release" was.

Canceling that appointment.

I am married to a massage theraphist but I don't get any unless I am really hurt (And this is very common thing). I do yoga and know how to do self massage. We also have a chi-machine (I call it the wiggler) and that is really good. Relaxes the back muscles.
