Show me your (nicely organized) stable
Tomorrow, I'm gonna bring home another bike. Exciting ...
Anyway, I just realized that I need to organize my bikes/garage.
This will be my 3rd road bike. We also have two Mt. bikes and two kids bikes. So if my mathematics are correct, I need to have a good & easy access to 7 bikes.
As you can imagine, our 3 car garage is full of junk and we only have space to park one car inside.
Anyway, show me your nicely organized garage/bike storage and recommend some good way to organize this "mess". I guess I need to buy some stands/hangers etc. Any ideas?
Thanks
J.

3 car garage and you got no room for another bike? Clean that thing!!
We have a 1 car garage, and right now there are 10 or 11 bikes in there (some are kids), a half dozen pairs of skis, one snowboard, a half dozen kayak paddles, about 200 board feet of nice 20 year old oak, maple, and cherry, two workbenches, two old school desks, two Stella scooters, two inflatable whitewater kayaks, camping gear, and probably some other stuff I can't think of right now. I can function in there, if I'm careful and I keep all in it's proper place. If I get lazy, it becomes a disaster.
Hang some bikes, clean the garage, you'll have plenty of room.

There's someone here who lives for threads like this ... he'll no doubt show up to post his photo in this thread.

Not the best picture, but this is my bike workshop.
Bikes are held on the wall by a $2 bike hook from Home Depot at alternating heights. I alternate the heights so the handlebars can overlap and I can fit 5 bikes in about 5 feet of wall space.

Hanging a bike by it's front or back wheel doesn't harm the wheels in any way? This would be ideal for my garage for space reasons. I have a performance 2 bike free standing stand and it's always in the way of something... please advise.

No issues so far. I'm always pretty gentle when hanging or taking them down. The hooks have a rubber coating so they won't scratch the wheels.

The only real risk is that you accidentally try to hang the bike from the valve stem.

I will get those hooks from Home Depot for sure.
Thanks

This was in a huge communal garage- about 8 people had it divided up. It's not as clean as it could've been, since a friend and I both had projects, perpetually. The two junkers above were kind of a joke.
Those hooks work just fine- consider that there's only 20 pounds of pressure or so being pulled against your wheel when it hangs.

Yes, the rubber covered screw in hooks are the way to go. You can either hang bikes by the front wheel or, if your ceiling is low enough, upside down by two hooks from the ceiling. The third stall of our garage was a common dumping ground until I cleaned it up and turned into to the Mancave. It now houses 10+ bikes along with an assortment of general guy gear (two older boys). It's a very cozy and pleasant place.

Are there points awarded for degree of difficulty? I had to repurpose a bathroom in our tiny NYC apartment...
