Are you trying to gain or lose weight?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are you trying to gain or lose weight?

There are lots of threads about people trying to alter their weight. I'm just wondering what the breakdown is. Do not report what you think you *should* weigh or what you *want*, but rather what you are actively trying to do.

i should also say that a lot of people talk about wanting to lose weight, but what they really want is to change shape. buring off fat and toning muscles may be a net gain/loss of zero, but you wind up looking and feeling better in the process...

thats the way i look at it anyway, weight, in and of itself isnt really too meaningful...

Funny you should mention that. I'd like to gain weight, but it's mostly because I get so many comments about being too thin. Also, skinny women have arms that are bigger than mine. But I actually feel fine.

I am trying to lose 10 just to break even with the pending seasonal gain. I have the body type of Wayne Rooney but it quickly turns to Mickey Rooney if I don't keep it in check.

Your notion is spot on in terms of..... well, me. I know I can afford to drop 10 to be at 205 which is ideal for me. But it all boils down to my 'tux' trousers from my wedding. If I can get in them comfortably and consistently, then I'm where I want to be and I wouldn't care if I were 220 in the process. They are 36x32 btw....

I'm at 6'1 180. Would like to be at 170-175, but not quite enough to stop eating delicious bacon egg and cheese biscuits for breakfast once or twice a week .

im 22 years old, 5' 8", almost 200 lbs, high body fat %, depressing to look in the mirror

i sometimes feel i have the physique of

I started cycling this summer, i have terrible hand eye coordination, not a fast sprinter, so im not the best at many sports. I like riding because i can go at my own pace, or push it when i really want to attain a goal ( i try to set goals for myself on a ride to ride basis, ie. next ride i want to shave 4 minutes off my overall time, etc.) Over the summer I lost about 12lbs, however i havent gotten my diet to be exactly where i want it, still room for improvement.

I must say I really enjoy going out for a ride on country roads that arent busy, i get to see some scenery and clear my mind, and shoot the sh*t with my riding partner (i havent gone solo yet)

Get down to 155; currently @ 165. 6'1".

Been there before, it's hard for me to maintain it unless I eat like a bird... I seem to settle in at 165 no matter what and have been referred to as "lanky" more than once recently however. People start to think you have cancer or tapeworm as the weight drops.

I need to drop 10. These are the same 10 that I've gained since race season ended about 7 weeks ago.

6' tall, 160 down to 150... fighting weight

Drop upper body mass. I'm pretty good on body fat %, but I might want to lose 1-3% more (about 9-10% at the moment). Trying to lose the upper body muscle is a big hit to my ego. I've gone from being able to bench over 300 lbs to barely able to put up 250 in the past two months. I'm keeping up with the weights, but lower intensities, less force, more flexibility and better form.

I'm 5' 11" and was about 188 lbs when I started trying to lose the mass (two months ago), down to about 178. I'm trying to get to 164 (where I was three years ago). What is making the process harder is I'm gaining lower body mass with increasing power. No complaints about that one, though.

I'm lifting right now and want to gain about 10. Currently setting at 160. My goal is to be able to bench 300lb, squat 350, and dead lift 375/400. Hard part is it gets hard to recover from rides when lifting 3 days a week, and hard to recover from lifting when riding every day/other day.

Went from 218 to 173 after getting back on my bike(s). Like where I am and now just want to maintain. I'm 6' tall, so I think 173 is good for me and my build.
