Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Chain

Time to replace the chain.
I have Campy record 10 speed components.

Would you recommend a record 10 speed chain or KMC X10SL? or something different?

Spend the 80 bucks on a record chain.

The dude at the shop always tries to put a chorus chain on my bike and I've found they don't last or stay quiet as long as record chains do (with my lack of maintenance that is).

All variations of KMC have worked flawlessly with my campy drivetrain (Record/chorus setup ftw)

No so. There is no difference in the quality of materials between Record, Chorus or Veloce. Record just has hollow pins in addition to the holes in the outer plates to reduce weight. The Veloce model has neither.

Campy chains far outlast Shimano or KMC chain, in the tests I've done. This is due to the minimal elongation, if the chain is adequately lubed and cleaned. I've used a Campy 10 chain for 6,000 miles and measured a fraction of the "allowable" .5% elongation. Unfortunately, elongation is not the only reason to trash a chain. The chain with 6,000 miles of use had a roller spacing of .240 inch, compared to .200 when new and about .013 inch of side clearance - nearly double the original amount. It was shot, IMO.

I buy my chains at places like Ribble for $35-45. I bought 9 new 11 speed chains with an average price of no more the $35, back when the exchange rates were favorable. That allows me to do a 3-chain rotation on all three of my bikes. Even if I only get 4,000 miles from each chain, that's a lot of years of riding.

I always had great life out of KMC chains on Campy drivetrains. Campy chains are very nice.
