Best quote of the movie

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best quote of the movie

I went to see the movie "Race Across the Sky". The best line in the movie came in the beginning of the movie during a panel discussion.

Ken Chlouber was joking that the only people who get special preference from the lottery are Tour De France winners like Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis. At that point Lance Armstrong chimes in "Invite Alberto Contador to the Leadville 100".

Could you imagine the hype there would be if Contador and Armstrong both raced the Leadville 100.

My money would be on Armstrong -only if he does not get a flat!

If that's really the best quote from the movie it sounds a bit dry. I did like the trailer. Man what epic cycling scenes.

If Bert were able to beat him in an upcoming L100, what challenge would Lance next propose?
I'd guess something even more obscure than a high altitude fire-road grind fest.
Breath holding?

1) nice meaningless thread title
2) isn't there already a thread this would slip just fine into?
3) OMG Lance is teh dreamy, isn't he?

I think the quote meant to point out that the Tour de France winner from the year prior would get SECOND in the first Leadville they do. Floyd = 2nd in 2007. Lance = 2nd in 2009. They also got beaten by the guy who won the prior year, although in Floyd and Lance's case it was the same guy - Dave Wiens.

That's when Lance, who won in 2009, said they should invite Contador. I think the implication is that Lance would win and beat Contador if they both did Leadville in 2010.

I guess a side thing that Lance didn't really address is that this implies that Lance thinks Contador will win the 2010 Tour (since Leadville 2010 occurs after the 2010 Tour). I thought that was kind of interesting, the implied assumption.

What begs the question is how would the other GC contender do in the Leadville race?

Lance was the only racer that rode up the "Power Line" even Wiens had to walk his bike up. If you had Contador, the Schleck brothers would Lance end up fourth?

The question is, Lance was an animal going up the Power Line but how good was the rest of the field?

"you guys ROCK!"

by FL road racer Grant Potter on the top of Columbine mine- spoken to the volunteers who were handing out food, changing flats, lube-ing chains, braving the *****ty weather, and basically- making the whole race work.

Grants a cool guy too. good to see him in the film.

I was impressed with Dave Wien's thanks to the volunteers at the turn around, having been in the volunteer side of things (not at Leadville though). To have the presence of mind to say that, and to think it's important enough to say, I think it's a big deal.

"I did 2 training camps for Leadville. One in Italy and one in France."

I believe Dave Wiens made a similar gesture yelling "Thank you guys," as he made the turn back.

I thought the movie was so-so overall, more a nice publicity piece for the race. The best thing I took away from it was learning about Dave Wiens. Considering he basically owns that event, he seems like a real humble, down to earth pro.
