CO2 Problems

First CO2 pump was a cheapo, non-threaded one where the cartridge is held on by a cage threaded over the cartridge. It worked perfectly the first time I used it, second time the o-ring failed where the cartridge meets the pump body and left me stranded.

Second one, a better quality louis garneau pump that accepts threaded cartridges. This one worked when I pre-filled the tube in order to fit it back on the wheel, but failed when I tried to inflate to riding pressure. This time was an o-ring again, but it was the o-ring in the spring mechanism.

Is it me? Is CO2 reliable? I'd like to find an alternative to my blackburn airstick... inflating to 100psi with this little thing is more of a workout than the ride itself.

I use true innovations CO2 inflators and never had problems.

that's who manufactures the cartridges that I have. I'll have to look around the shop to see if they have the inflators too.

Thanks

No problems with my CO2. I did only use it twice, though.

interesting...

Searching true innovations c02 inflator I came across this http://www.mtbr.com/cat/accessories/...53_136crx.aspx

Nice for the first 2 weeks until the O Ring Seal broke causing the CO2 to leak out, had hard time with customer service trying to get another replacement quickly so I could use it for a race5 for the speed of air pressure, 1 for product life and customer service

sounds like it's nature of the beast and luck of the draw :(

I use one of their hybrid pumps that my dealer included in the seat bag kit with my bike purchase. Works great and has a manual pump for back up if you run out of CO2.

Air chuck sl. I've used mine dozen of times over the years on mine and other peoples bikes, never had a problem except frost bite in June once. With CO2 the trick is to keep it simple.

ditto.

It was a little disconcerting when the cartridge stuck to my hand like a kid licking a flagpole in January. The next time I wore my gloves. :D
