Campagnolo Xenon shifters compatibility?
Broke my left chorus shfter. Thinking of getting the xenon shifters (now 10 spd) for my commuter. Would it work with a centaur drivetrain? Cheaper to get two new xenon shifters and sell my still good condition chorus right shifter

All Campy 10s stuff is compatible with one another.
A question though. What part of your Chorus shifter broke? Did you know that you can buy rebuild kits for your old shifter for about $30.00. Heck for $30.00, your LBS may even fix it for you. Here's one shop that does it very inexpensively. Most will. Then you don't need to buy a whole new shifter. Good thing about Campy vs Shimano, is you can rebuild Campy if you need to. I would stop by your LBS (or even search online), and see if they can order one for you. http://spokesmanbicycles.com/page.cfm?PageID=366 |
The Xenon components should work fine with everything else. They do have reinforced plastic brake levers though.

My Xenon shifters are functionally different from my Record. The left (QS) has only 3 ratchets and a stronger spring and the right (Escape)shifts lower only three cogs and higher only 1. They would work with Chorus, but you would lose features.

Bad idea to invest in the no longer supported escape shifters, IMO. The don't work like the old Chorus/Record models.
The new Veloce ultrashift lever are only about $120 at Ribble and that includes a cable set worth about $50. Explain what broke. Some things are worth fixing and some are not. Internal parts are still available and cheap. Other parts, like brake levers can be a bit pricey. Check out www.aebike.com for repair parts. |
