Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's just one of those days ...

I wanted to go for a quick 25 miler this evening after taking the kids to Disneyland.

1. First attempt: I started riding until after half a mile, I realized that I forgot my helmet! I had this thick skull cap on that felt like I was wearing a helmet. I went back to the house

2. Second attempt: I rode out again and half a mile later (almost the same spot as attempt #1), I realized that I forgot my HR monitor and cell phone. I went back to the house.

3. Third attempt: About 4 miles out, I realized forgot my water bottle!

I took this as an omen and called it a night. Something was telling me not to ride this evening ...

All you really needed was the helmet. It was a 25 mile ride, not a 110 mile ride through the Sierras.

You might consider your misplaced concerns an omen and give up cycling all together, that would make more sense.

Last night I forgot my booties...HAD to go back for those. Didn't forget anything tonight. I understand the cell too...at least in the dark. The water? Ida done without it. My ride tonight was 20 and I didn't bother with a bottle.

I would have turned around also for my helmet. But any ride under an hour, I don't really care about liquid. On the other hand, my wife won't even go on a 30 minute walk without taking a bottle of water.

Edit: . . . cell phone: never.

So you're saying you can do a solo 25 mile ride in under an hour?

The only time that I will even remotely THINK about quitting cycling is when Mt. Doom falls into the ocean.
