rebuilding campy ergo levers... in toronto?
after being away from bf for a bit to work on my car *blasphemy*, i returned to ride and about 10 mins in, i found my right centaur shifter is really soft and not clacking its thumb shifter like it used to. Google tells me the G-Spring and carrier are in need of a change. anyone have experience working on this and know of a place in toronto to 1, get parts and 2, charge reasonable prices? I would try my hand at it, but finding the parts may be the challenge..

I bought them online last year .... don't remember where ... but the price was something like $9 for the pair of springs. It's a bit of a pain to do ....

If you're willing to spen $10 for shipping some stores that service them will be willing to do it for as little as $30 plus parts for labor, which is a lot cheaper than buying a whole new shifter.

Rebulding just takes time, patience, and bit of know how. But, if you're able to rebuild your whole bike, then you can rebuild a shifter too.

Before buying any parts, make sure that your shifters do indeed have g-springs. There were a couple of years that Centaur shifters used a different mechanism

well, if it helps, they are 2006, 10 speed centaur shifters, predating quick release mechanism shifters... they have aluminum levers with a cutout in the mouse-ear... are these g-spring compatible?
it still shifts and can swing 5+ gears at a time, just the clicking/clacking of the indexing is not as defined as it used to be.
the rest of the drivetrain is in spotless condition, if that helps identify my symptoms.
EDIT: ouch, looking at the $69 parts order from competitive cyclist, im gonna save up for this repair for xmas.. ugh..

Though I'm a fairly decent mechanic, I decided I had other more important things to do than rebuild my 2006 Centaur levers and took them in to a local shop, earlier this year.
$45, incl. parts.

The G-spring is a $4 part. We charge $45 to overhaul the levers. You can do this repair yourself, IF you have someone show you how to do it the first time. It is *slightly* complicated to do but not overtly.
You may want to talk to Dwayne at urbane and ask if he knows how to o/h ergo levers. I'd trust him.
