Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think it's a clever idea...some details to work out, reminds me of the "Flat Stanley" project kids do at school...

I think if would be cooler if you gave it to an out-of-town rider, or while on an out-of-town ride. It should work off the 6 degrees theory and it would be interesting to see where it goes.

You should make it like one of those chain letter ponzi schemes where everybody has to send me a dollar.

It'd be cool if each person who passed it on loosely zip-tied a little plastic tag w/ their name or message on the bracelet... eventually it'd be covered w/ tags of all the people who wore it. (Can you say Purel?)

Much better idea. Mailing a bracelet around is kind of expensive.

Not to mention, aren't you going to quickly run out of space for initials?

stamps are about 50 cents, if the bracelet is light enough. That's 50 cents more than just giving it to someone riding from out of town.

Plus, the just giving it to someone and seeing where it ends up (each person can tell the next person to send you an e-mail or something) is much cooler.

And it's kinda hard to write small in a permanent marker.

The gnome from Amelie + geocaching + bikes.

It's totally been done before, and should be no problem to pull off.

Or a small journal to pass along with the bracelet which reads:

Name
Miles Cycled
Dedicated to

Or the OP could set up a website and write it on the bracelet so each recipient can leave a post with that information.

(kind of like where's george)

I'm in. Whatever format it takes, I'll get involved. If we stick to handing it in person to each other, then I'll be in Newport Beach last two weeks August 2010 (on a hired cruiser so not many miles!)...

Otherwise, using airmail doesn't bother me.
