Are Treks good bikes?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are Treks good bikes?

Hi there! I'm a long time mountainbiker looking to go road and I have a couple of questions. I've been looking at roadbikes and one brand that stands out to me particularly is Trek. Even though I'm not from the USA I love the USA and seeing that Treks are made in the USA I would like to get one. But, what I want to know is: Are Treks good bikes? Or should I get a Specialized?

Only the high end ones are made in the USA. Aside from that, they're pretty decent. You may be paying more for the name though.

I heard treks are all made in asia by children who are paid in wampum stolen from native americans and carried to africa on slave ships before being given to hitler as a gift from satan himself. I'd stay away and get a CAAD9 instead.

1. They're the greatest value out there.

2. They're over-priced junk.

3. Lance rides one...

4. Lance rides one...

5. They're so good, almost everyone has one...

6. Only the poseur/fred/fatties own 'em...

7. Bontrager components rock.

8. Bontrager crap is well...crap.

9. I feel secure in my purchase knowing how many other cyclists own them.

10. I would never own an Accord or a Corolla either.

Buy the bike you can afford with the parts you want from the shop you wish to do business with that fits you the best. Trek makes fine bikes, so does Specialized, and so do scores of other bike manufacturers.

11. But don't get a Cervelo, something about the way they route their cables...

What's wrong with Trek? I haven;t been in the cycling scene very long, but they look to be a great brand. I didn't get one only because I couldn't find a used one at a decent price. So what's wrong with them?

I don't know. Why are you asking me? I want to know if they are good bikes and now you tell me they're not? This is confusing.

What are the choices in your area? Treks are good bikes, but I own a Specialized.

I am/was a loyal Specialized owner, but I was looking for a new bike and tried the all the brands
to see which I liked. I rode Trek, Specialized, Giant, etc., and finally chose a Trek. I couldn't believe it and felt like a traitor, but fact is, it fit and felt the best.
Point is, ride as many brands as you can and choose the one that fits and feels best, with customer support, price, warranty, tune-ups, etc. that make you feel good about the purchase.

What's a Trek? Isn't that when you go someplace far away?

In my experience, Trek road bikes are good. I've had an older, cheaper aluminum one and a more expensive newer carbon one and they are both good bikes. The grade of components varies, obviously, and makes an important difference.
