Raleigh

Does anyone know how decent a Raleigh road bike is? If so could I get a 1-10 rating? 10 best, 1 worst? Thanks.

Depends on what you are wanting to do. For recreation and training it can be a very good bike at a reasonable price. I had a Raleigh before my Fuji and I was pretty happy.

However, I am new to cycling and only use road riding for weight loss / fitness. I am not racing or doing centuries (yet).

I have a raleigh heritage international and love it, although I did swap out the handlebars. I'm very sensitive to road buzz and stiffness and find my current raleigh to be a lot smoother than the mongoose (it was before PC took over) I had before. I've had peugots, a ross touring bike, and a viner also in my past. I just went on my first large group ride a couple weekends ago and was suprized at how fast and sporty I was. Mine is the red white and blue zona steel frame one with campy centaur group. I also have a carbon fork. I don't know if that matters much or not. I find it fun and comfortable to ride.

I have a Raleigh R600 and think it is a great bike. I'd give it a 7.5
My other bike (Litespeed Tuscany) gets a 10! :D

Got a R600 and think it's great... about a 7.5/10. Probably a bit better if you swap out the fork for a CF one (which I'm looking to do).

I figured I better join this forum after lurking for three months and soaking up all the information. My LBS had a new 2002 Raleigh R700 fully loaded with Ultegra on sale for $999. To get a comparable bike with full Ultegra I was looking at at least $1500 (on sale) for a Le Monde, trek or cannondale. I test drove all four and they all seemed to fit and handle similar but the test rides were short and some had clipless pedals and I had on trainers. I guess I bought the Raleigh just because it was the best deal. I took it out for my first 15 mile run and I think I need to adjust the seat forward but apart from that the gears changed smoothly and my hands didnt go numb like they do on my mountain bike. I am happy with my purchase so I will rate the Raleigh 9 out of 10.
