What deals does your LBS(s) give you?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

10-20% off, if not at cost. Free labour. Some little things for free, like tubes. Bought two bikes there (one hybrid, one touring bike) and about 90% of other cycling-related purchases. This is after a year or so of patronizing the store. I feel bad often because he sells us so much stuff at cost and he's not a big operation. But we'll continue to frequent his shop as long as he's in business, so I guess he's taking the long view. My bosses and coworkers have all bought bikes from him and we supply him with free stickers, magnets and reflective tape.

I'm a do-it-myselfer and never felt very comfortable at our club's shop.

The shop that sponsors our club gives us 10% off. My more local lbs doesn't offer and I don't push it.

apparently i'm going to the wrong bike shops. I thought they were hooking me up when they only charged me $10 for a headset install.. then they charged me $14 for two no name brake cables. www.i'llkeepshoppingonline.com.

Mine let me borrow and bring home a bottom bracket tool from the back room because they didn't have one in stock.

It appears most shops offer approx. 10% off, and some up to 20%. I actually sometimes show up with what I see online, and ask if they can match it. The did for my Tacx Fortius trainer, which was great. Even though I had to pay tax on it, they put the dang thing together for me, so that was definitely good.

One shop in my area refuses to offer discounts on bikes, or very very little. That just doesn't make sense to me, knowing the strong online competition and the competition from lbs in the area.

Well;

I got my $2300 Opera Bernini with Keo Sprints ($200) and a Strada (cadence, wired, $100) for $1725 AND got to take it home after the first down payment. I get everything at 20-70% off ($600 wheels for $450, $350 shoes for $90). I get free advice all the time. I get shop kit for cheap or free. I get training with them out on the road sometimes.

My friends get 10-15% if they say I sent them there.

Oh, and my pay check.

Used to get free labor on installs and tune-ups. I also received a discount. Notice the past tense... the old shop guys left and the owner has no customer service skills.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that they don't offer any loaner saddles. I'm going to venture out a greater distance and try different shops.

Generally the bike shop that I use has given me no "deals" and has on at least one occasion gouged me on a used Mavic wheel set. My fault for not being informed before paying.

I purchase most of my required parts online, even my last bike, a Giant Defy 3.

My shop charges me more than their other customers.
Probably because I'm usually drunk when I'm in there and always wanting to touch the Precious.

Great service at great prices. I let them know if I need something really quick or not. I get in front of the line if I tell them it's important, and they can get to it whenever if not. I trust them and they trust me. Great guys. A six pack of beer on Fridays from time to time helps too.

Well, aside from free promo stuff like t-shirts, energy bars etc... i normally get 20% off, regularly. I get as much as 50% off on certain things. Got my Raleigh for almost half of MSRP. Normally I can find bigger deals on big ticket items like wheelsets and frames on the internet. But when it comes to MAJOR repairs, apparel and certain smaller accessories. I'd rather pay a little extra and support my LBS.

I pay full MSRP for each of the two water bottles I buy each year ($8-10 plus tax). I buy nothing else from them.

I get 10-20% off normally but the free advice is what is really priceless.

Getting your broken bikes worked on quickly is nice too.

Just curious, for everyone that posted that they don't shop at the LBS because they don't get a discount or only shop at certain places that give a discount, do you ask for a discount when you go buy groceries?

What about when you buy gasoline? Do you ask for a discount? Or how about when you go to Starbucks, do you ask for 20% off?

If you've never been a customer at a particular LBS before, what makes you think that they will just give you a discount? What makes you so special? And most of you who are saying they get 10-20% off, I'd be willing to bet that everyone who walks in the door of that shop gets the same discount.

The best deal I get is great service. There is no amount of money that can pay for that. The second is great pricing. Just bought a Super Record groupset and a Nokon cable set up [w/warranty] for cheaper than any price on the internet incl. Europe. What do I give them, my money [all cash]. After owning my own business, cash is the best thing for any business. Cards just are a pain and cost too much.
