Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

g'day,

If you brought the bike from them & give them your 'consumable' business, i would expect free labour for minor 'tune ups', as you call them. Parts at cost,

cheers,

Hitchy

Mine does, but this is actually called "free adjustments for life". Pretty much what they do is they have a $20 discount on all service operations if you purchased your bike there, while the basic adjustments cost $20 ( 20-20=0 ). But the standard tune up (check wheels, drive terrain etc.) is $50 (and now is 30 for me). You get the picture. Before switching my LBS, I could go in an have adjustments done on the spot and free even though that wasn't their policy. Free tune ups for life is a good way to sell a bike, especially when other LBS's may sell for $50 less. All in all, deal with the store that makes you most comfortable.

Mine does. Free tune-ups, which includes inspecting the components and adjusting the shifting/brakes. I think they figure that after a couple of thousand miles they will make up for the free tune-up with the parts they find worn and need to replace. They always call before doing any work other than the tune-up.

Any of these LBS in the LA/Santa Monica area?

Two major LBS here seem to not want sales. I'm in the market for a new relatively high end road bike and it's actually taken them up to 15 mins to come by me (while I'm intently looking at some road bike all that time) and when they get there I get the lip service for about 5 mins.

When I owned my store, we did free adjustments for life if you purchased a new bike. How could we do this? Simple...the vast majority of people who bought bikes never brought them back in! The folks who did bring them in were more like the people who post on this forum. They frequently use their bikes and are more conscious about the need to have them adjusted properly.

All shops around here do. Good idea for them, while they tighten cables and adjust shifters, you walk around the store, see cool stuff and buy it. Often get ideas about a new bike. Damn my impressionable brain.
