DIY free motion rollers
So I am attempting at building some rollers for my Trek for this winter and just need some help. I build everything up and I thought it would work just like everyone elses that seem to have built them. But my front roller doesn't seem to move when I pedal the back wheel. I tried spacing the back rollers differently and moving the front roller more to the front or back but nothing. I have solid plastic rollers about 3 and half inches diameter with mounted bearings on a aluminum frame. I can get pictures or video if anyone would like.

Does the belt seem to be slipping at the front or back ? The front roller spins smoothly ?

If you need a custom belt, you can order them from ebelting.com. I did when I had to connect a resistance unit to my DIY freemotion rollers.
If you made the rollers themselves too, then make sure there is a groove on the side to keep the belt in place, otherwise it might wander off the roller.

Ok, I'm calling sock puppet / troll here.. anybody with the mechanical know how to put something like that together would have to understand the front wheel won't simply start rolling of it's own volition. Please tell me you did it for the laugh.

Free motion rollers are like training wheels for rollers: sooner or later (after about 10 minutes of effort), you'll find that you don't need all the fancy stuff to get a good workout, and you can ditch all of the extra parts. Why not just skip them to begin with?

Agreed. You couldn't put together DIY rollers and not understand that the front wheel on your bike is unpowered.
