Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mercier Serpens Ltd/BikesDirect

Saw some earlier posts on this bike. This bike is the same as a Fuji Robaix. In fact the box had Mercier name on it and the lables/barcodes on the end of the box were Fuji. Inside the dealer set up sheet was Fuji. Was at a Fuji dealer the other day and looked at the Roubaix, same bike just different stickers. I.ve got about 200 miles on mine and quiet happy with it. Lot of bike for $859.95. If you buy from BikesDirect don't plan on any service after the purchase. They emailed me almost instantly when getting ready to purchase, after the purchase I requested a list of Mercier dealers and have never heard from them. Sent the same email to the Mercier web page and got a response that they hadn't found anybody with the stringent qualifications to be a dealer. What a bunch of bull. Think the Mercier web and bikes direct are one in the same. The bike was easy to put together. Shifting indexing had to be set up and wheels trued were the main problems. If you can't set up the bike yourself suggest you check with your LBS first. Bikes Direct says you should get it set up for $20-25. Can't imagine any dealer doing it for that. The Fuji dealer I was at, Performance Bike, I'am on vacation in Colorado Springs, said he would charge $100. His price on the Roubaix was $969 With lifetime service. Brought mine in for a once over, headset needed adjustment and also the B screw on the rear derailure, plus they checked the bike completly over and charged me $10. Also go to www.parktools.com for help. Have an excellant web site on bike repair, etc.

To me the ride is great. Only thing I have to compare it with is my old Raleigh 10 spd and a demo ride on a Specialized Alez.
