Recommend an all around tire for training and outdoors
I have been switching from riding on the road to riding on the trainer quite often, and I noticed my rear tire is worn just down the middle from using the trainer. I was looking at getting a trainer tire, but I don't particularly want to switch a trainer tire and my normal tire all the time. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for all around tires which wont get so worn down on the trainer.

You could buy a super cheap rear wheel and use that on the trainer...

Use Continental gatorskins. It will still tend to get a flat spot from the trainer but it takes a little longer.

Cheap wheels (Mavic Aksium is mine) can be had for about the price of that ruined tire. Add a trainer tire and a cassette and you're ready to go.

FWIW, A couple years ago I picked up a cheapie ($20) Bontrager from my LBS and that barely got squared after a full season on the trainer.

Cheap rear wheel (used) and left over tires.
Ride used tires down until the threads start showing. |
lower the air pressure, but adjust the roller further into the tire....it will distribute the wear over more of the tread

Ride used tires down until the threads start showing. The heat from the trainer dries out the tire rendering it with less grip for outdoors. |
