Looking to justify a purchase
My new bike came with a silver seatpost, and I really want to swap it for a black one. It's not the end of the world, since I can hardly fault anything about the bike.
So here's the problem. I bought a black Thomson stem, which was $100 I didn't need to spend on the bike. Now I want a black Thomson post to match. For my $90-100, I get to have a matching stem and post, and lose maybe 100 grams. Someone please tell me that having a post and stem that match, at least color-wise, justifies that outlay. I can probably get a post similar to what's on there now for $30, or probably less if my LBS has a take-off. (From someone who bought a Thomson, no doubt

do what you want... no one else cares what color your seatpost is but you.
what you will get from BF is endless praise for thomson products. it's one of the "no-brainer" "bombproof" purchases... so if you need your push over the fence...

31.6 probably not gonna work.
Also, if you want a black one, go ahead and buy one that matches. Cheaper solution is to sell your stem and put a $25 silver one on

new bars, too? What was wrong with the old ones? You could always wrap the bars, you know. The black of the thompson stem certainly doesn't match the black on the bars

For best looks, the seatpost should match the stem, bar tape to the saddle, tires "at least stripes on them" to the frame color, and brake hoods and cables to bar tape. Everything said, I got tired of black seatposts and stems.

It had silver bars and a black stem. Since the bike has nearly zero graphics on it, I wanted to get rid of all the shiny silver bits too and maintain the clean look while tweaking the fit. I got to spec the bar width, and went with 42cm when I should have gone with 44cm, hence the new bars.

Don't do it! You'll be sorry.
(There. Now you can't say "all the other kids said to".)

[lie]It is totally worth it. You won't miss the money, matching components are required on all bikes, and the weight loss will make you 30% faster on the flats and 50% fast on the hills[/lie]
Feel better now?

if your bike is beautiful to you then you need to get a matching seatpost.
