Advice sought - what to buy?
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and am impressed by the activity and quality of the dialogues. I need some advice please.
I'm moving from Montreal, Quebec to northwestern Italy (Turin) for at least three years. My intention is to explore as many of the alp ranges by bike as possible, and use this activity as my form of exercise. I ride here in Montreal year round, mostly on my track bike.
I am 1,70 m tall, 63 kilos (5'7" and 135 pounds)
Here are my two questions:
1. I wish to spend up to $2000CAD/$1800USD on a bike suitable for climbing. What should I look for in terms of features? Does anyone have a brand and model to recommend?
2. Should I buy the bike in Canada or in Europe? Where will I get more value?
Thanks!
Jeremy

Roubaix! Relax geo. = easier on the climbs, imo.
I honestly believe that you benefit more from buying a bike at your LBS. The connections and the lifelong friendship is something that's worth the extra hundreds. You don't save much if you're importing from other countries anyways.

Many good Italian brands such as Colnago.
Buy in Italy. Do a search of the Italian used bike forums to get a feel of the prices for used bikes.

What are the qualities of a bike designed for climbing? Stiffness, geometry, etc...
Thanks to jimblairo and Kurogashi for replies..
