Can anyone help?
I need a road bike, need it shipped to Belize and want it for under $800 (total). Can anyone help on how to do this - if it is even possible? I need a 55, want the best spec possible (But Sora up) and need it asap.
Tips welcomed - I've only been able to source a Trek 1.1 for $1000 in country so far....

OK - out of country I've found that I can get bikes shipped through www.myus.com and it looks to be around $200.
Jenson USA look as though they're going to be able to ship bikes for around $200 too - the only bike they have is a Scott which would be around $750, a fair bit above budget with P&P inc...
Alternatively Bikes Direct will ship for free to an American address and I can get a Windsor Fens which seems to be pretty much equipped with 105 for $700.
I am only going to be using this bike for around 3 months before returning home. At that time, I reckon I'll probably be dismantling as much of the bike as possible to take it back with me (may just abandon the frame) as I have a frame to build up when I get back...
Anyone with any other tips or suggestions please let me know. Or if you have a 2nd hand bike you are willing to ship to Belize - I'm after a 54/55/56!

You can't be in a hurry for a bike AND want it shipped internationally. Surely there are bicycles in Belize? Else from your second post, try emailing and requesting BikesDirect for a 2nd hand bike shipped to Belize...and don't forget to let us know if they were kind enough and actually did.

can't get one there or mexico? I know how hard it can be to get bikes in some countries, there's a 20% tariff on bikes here, but I don't know the trade rules where you are. Don't hold me to this but it seems like there was a good bike market in Mexico in the 90s. I remember my cousin going down there just to get a bike. might want to ask in a regional forum.

Thanks (I think) for all the help above.
Basically - I know that Bikes Direct can sell me a bike in the States for about $700 that will have 105 componentry. I understand that they are an internet only retailer and therefore a lot cheaper than LBS. I am looking to spend around $700 to $800 on a road bike with Sora up componentry. I know the Trek 1.1 sells at about $600 in the states, has 2300 groupset and with Postage will be about $800.
The bike shop in Belize sells the 1.1 at about $1000 which is a pretty hefty mark up. Just to remind you all, Belize is a pretty tiny country and whilst there are a lot bikes here, they are almost all very basic MTB or cruiser type bikes. The bike shop that sells the Trek 1.1 for $1000 seems to have a bit of a monopoly and the Trek 1.1 is its cheapest bike.
I'm not after the impossible - I think I've found bikes that hit the price bracket (Bikesdirect's Windsor Fens with 105 or the Mercier with 105 for <$700, a Dawes lightning 2300 from chicabikes with 105 and below components for $650), but what I guess I'm looking for is help with anyone that may know where I can get a deal from a US shop who may ship direct to Belize. Bikes direct won't ship direct, but will ship to myus.com. It seems a little crazy to me that someone should go to the hassle of shipping to a US address first before it is forwarded on to me here - and more expensive, hence looking for direct shipping.
@Operator - $600 is £400 and I would expect easily to find a road bike in the uk for that price with Sora. AND historically the US is far more competitively priced than the UK.
Roadbikeoutlet do a bike for $439 (gavin aluminium) with a 2300 and Sora groupset and will deliver to Belize for $390.67.
As you can see, I have done a fair bit of research, but I am not from Belize, I am not from the US and I was hoping that someone may be able to help - if they have direct experience or a bike they want to shift. Quotes for shipping seem to have been up to 7 days - which is fine by me.
I had considered Mexico - but I can't seem to find any bike shops with suitable bikes in the Yucatan peninsular - again, anyone with any experience, please let me know.
The reason I want decent componentry at a cheap price is that I will probably strip the bike, leave the frame, but take home everything else to build a frame up with when I get home.
Again - thank you for your time so far - and thank you to anyone who can help me further!

Maybe get a groupset from one of the online suppliers then hang it on a used frame sourced locally, then strip the group and ship it home when you leave.

May speak to them about buying a bike and selling it back with price depending on condition, however, they were unable to give me an indication about what those prices would be. If they sell me a Trek for $1k and but it back for $600, it would be worth me buying a bike for $800 with a decent groupset and stripping it and taking it back to the UK where a 105 set costs $500, a set of wheels $150, a stem and handlbars $50 and I have a frame waiting to be built....

Wow. Importing a bike is DEF out - Import tax of 20%, 2% environmental tax and 10% GST. 32% overall which would mean on a $700 bike, $224 worth of taxes!!! Add that to shipping and I can see why the bike shop here charges $1000 for a bike that costs $600 in the states.
