I did it...bought my first bike
For my very first road bike purchase I bought a 2009 Scott CR1 Team CD. I got it on closeout for $1679 online. Did I get a good deal? Carbon frame, 105 group. Really tried to stay in the lower price range the first time out (really wanted Ultegra or Sram Rival, but maybe next time). I am fairly excited, but now I need to buy everything else. Pedals, shoes, bibs or shorts, jersey, etc. I guess I'll need a bike carrier, too, since I'll be riding well away from where I live (closer to work).

congrats. Go to a lbs and get a proper fitting and they can install the pedals, and computers and such. Sounds like a good long lasting investment. Ride with pride!

I hope you were able to try one out at your LBS before you purchased it, if not, there is a very good chance you got the wrong size. What size did you buy? How tall are you? I hate to be a downer but but fit is everything. If the bike doesn't fit right, you could be in for a lot of discomfort and unhappiness and ALL bikes fit differently regardless of geometry. As for the bike itself, I don't know much about Scott bikes except that a lot of people like them. Good choice on the 105 components. What are you going to be using it for?

Not so much whether I should have bought the bike at this price - rather wondering if it was a decent deal. I expect it is ok, but wanted to check with the experts here. No worries on my end.
I was measured at an LBS resulting in a 54 or 56 frame. I am 5'9.5" with an average build. Among other measurements, a TT of 54.4 is what the computer measured out. The 54 was stated to likely be the best fit, but they fitter said he could fit the 56 well enough, but would rather go with the 54. This store sold Cannondales and with no 2009 stock available to them they really could not even sneak up on this price point for carbon/105. I was eyeing a 2010 Six Carbon 5. I will take this bike to them for the fitting. As well, I understand there is some risk involved with the online purchases. No Scott dealers in my area, but as I called around locally checking prices I was told that the Scotts run a tad bit larger than the Cannondales (I dunno), so I trust that the Scott will be ok. We'll see.

Cool, enjoy!
Very good chance? What are the odds of his chance? Do you have actual numbers to back up this claim of a good chance? Yep you're a downer, but you probably don't hate that. Way to rain on his parade.

And what is people obsession with number backing up sayings like good chance, do you have numbers to prove him wrong, if not feel free to STFU. Oh and so I don't sound like a total ass, Have a nice evening.

Might even be a better deal than a Caad9 (gasp!)
Enjoy, the CR1 by most accounts is a very good bike. Not as agressive a geometry as it was a couple of years ago, but that's a good thing for your first road bike.
And the 54 should work just fine.
Enjoy!

I'm about your size (without knowing you inseam or arm length) so it sounds like you should be OK on the size. Enjoy your new ride and welcome to the crowd, or should I say 'welcome to the addiction'. It can be worse than drugs and probably just as expensive, but you'll meet some of the best folks along the way. All I can say is keep on riding and enjoy the journey.
Also, sweet ride!

You don't sound like one, you are one.

stole your bike
I like the CR1 and was considering getting one a while back; a CR1 Pro with Ultegra and Ksyrium wheelset. The only thing that concerned me was the rear derailleur hangar which isn't replaceable, though I'm not sure if that's been changed in the newer model. Being that it isn't that difficult to bend one by accident I didn't want to chance it. As for the fit if a fitter gave you a TT size then you should be ok since most other things can be tweaked.

I have a Cr1 Team (late 2007 model in a 52cm) and I love it. It is MY first bike and I have enjoyed every km that I have ridden on it. The frame is a long term keeper and all you'll need to do in the next few years is just upgrade components.
Enjoy the many long rides that you will surely have on her and welcome to the cycling fraternity.

Killer deals come in the form of used bikes/closeouts/and sponserships for the most part. But you got a fantastic deal on a "New" bike, one that you could easily pay 1k more for in comparable bikes in other brands. Pics pics pcis.

Don't listen to the naysayer(s).
In most cases as long as you got within 2cm of the right size frame you can get a fit...might have to change a stem or seatpost but you should be able to get a fit. And at an average 5'9" or so you should be right there. I'm just short of 6' on a 54cm CAAD9 and I love my fit.
That's a real nice bike and a pretty killer deal too. You should be happy with it. Congrats!
