Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How many beers before you back out of early morning ride?

Just wondering. I’ve had two IPAs, two glasses of red wine and the night is still young. I’ll probably bang down a couple more before the night is over. And for those of you showing up at my home tomorrow morning (and you know who you are) I’ll be ready to go!

Ha. You guys are weak. I used to be a highly competitive runner and some of my best races were after a dozen beers and going to bed at 2:00 am.

Amazingly enough I have actually ridden most of my big rides after drinking a lot the night before. This is usually because those rides are more large group affairs with lots of celebration the night before.

I find I ride very well in those situations.

I'd certainly still ride.. only thing that has stopped me if being too drunk the next morning to hold a line...just remember once you puke on the first real hill you'll be fine

I'd stop at two beers, but that's just because I have to get up ridiculously early (~4am) for my morning ride. If I drink more than that, my heart starts pounding all funny during the climbs, and I feel like crap.

depends on what goes along with - and happens after - the beers.

If you're still counting how many beers you drink, and then bragging about it to strangers, are you old enough to learn to ride a bike?

About 8yrs back I had 3 bottle of Champagne over the course of a Saturday evening, done my 40mile route the following day and felt fine but on Monday, I barely had the energy to speak.... it was a slow day in the office that day!!

Once you puke hanging over the bars on the first climb the rest of the ride will be a cake walk. A realy horrid hang over is gone most of the time by mile 10.
