New Years Day Ride.2010

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Years Day Ride.2010

this ride, from del mar to oceanside (40 miles), turned out to be one of the best rides i've done. good people, great weather, and new (to me) scenery.

thanks to jim for driving up to del mar.

tire check with nachoman and mike.

on the road.

close that gap, mike!

that's more like it. jim on the left, followed by nachoman then mike.

the scenery.

packing up.

the drive home.

food.

being off the bike for four months, i had a pretty tough time on this ride to the point where, towards the end of the ride, i was just praying for the next stop light to catch a breather.

mike, the big guy, was king of the hill. sprinting up any indication of an incline. he later said this was so we did not have to wait for him at the top...he practically had to wait for us!!! again, great guys.

mike and nachoman did a majority of the pulling/pacesetting. impressive efforts.

as for me...i was the mechanical guy today. i lost 2 speedplay cleat screws (yes i had loctite) and had to make a pitstop to tighten down the two remaining ones i did have.

great way to start 2010.

Looks like you guys had a great time, the weather there certainly looks nicer than the weather here! I'm now longing for my spring vacation after seeing those palm trees. And whatever that is you're eating looks delicious.

Were you guys riding along the PCH ? I am so envious of SoCal weather... it's perfect all year round. Got the ocean on one side, beachfront houses on the other. /sigh...

I'll add that the weather was ideal in every way. It was in the low sixties with no wind on the way out and a slight tail wind on the way home. Our route followed the coast the entire time. We saw tons of joggers and surfers and at least a hundred other cyclists. What a perfect way to bring in the new year!

Cool pics! I used to live in SD for a while, and certainly the weather is perfect all year round to ride a bike.

wahoo's salad with blackened chicken, ranch dressing, and added a side of rice and beans to put on top. i ate non stop for the remainder of the day. 1 box of gushers snacks, 1 whole pack of peppered beef jerky, 4 cookies, one bowl of cereal. close to half gallon of milk. all within 4-5 hours.
