Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kinetic Road Machine Questions

Hi guys,
I just ordered a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine indoor trainer to workout on during the winter months. I plan to use it in my dorm room this winter and I have a couple questions about it.

- Can I use my Specialized Tricross singlespeed with it? I don't know if I can change the rear skewer but I'm pretty sure the current one will fit on the trainer.

-Are Spinervals still the preferred training materials? Does anybody have any book or DVD recommendations about indoor training?

Thanks!!

Kevin

The fixed gear axle may work - there is a definite cone shaped-ness(?) to the skewer/trainer so it won't be ideal.

Spinervals are good. Check out CTS, sufferfest.com and real rides. I go in cycles on all of these.

look here too. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...Trainer-Videos

All of the Spinervals that I have involve a lot of changing gears to hit various cadence and HR targets. Might be a little difficult to follow along properly on a single speed bike.

+1, I've been doing Spinervals 16.0 and CTS - Cycling for Fitness....both would be damned near impossible on a SS. That said I think the trainer can still be useful with the SS, but you'll not be able to follow most of the DVD workouts. Also, you'll want to switch to a slick tire in the rear, any knobbiness at all in the tire is going to make the trainer L-O-U-D loud!
