I'm thinking about getting the 09 Team PBK winter jacket and was wondering how exactly should they fit? Should they be tight like jerseys or should you go up a size of what you normaly wear with jerseys? I wear a large in jerseys and was wondering if I should go large with the jacket as well, or just go with an XL.

Makes sense. Since the PBK short sleeve jersey I have is pretty snug, I should go a size larger with the jacket or keep it the same size?

It kind of depends on how many layers you want to wear underneath it. Living in California, I don't wear more than a base layer and jersey, so sizing the jacket tight like the jersey works fine. I knew people who rode in colder areas who had 2 jackets - one regular size and one a size up - for this reason.

if you are large in the pbk jersey then def. get the large pbk jacket. don't they shoe chest measurements for the sizes?

I ride down to 15 deg F on the mountain bike, 20-25 deg F on the road. Okay, I rarely do that nowadays, but I used to do that Anyway, I still have the same jackets and such as I did a few years ago. I varied in weight from 180-210 lbs, wear a size L jersey (which is not extremely snug, but it's not flapping by any means), and all my jackets are size L. They all fit fine with 2 LS layers (jerseys or base layers) and 1 SS jersey underneath. Oh and the tops of relatively heavy bib tights too.

I've never ridden where I need two jackets, unless someone defines a thicker LS jersey as a jacket (in which case I did it regularly). To me "jacket" implies wind proof front and arms, insulation of some sort, and nice wrist cuffs. Usually at 40 deg F I can ride with a jacket and a thin LS base. A thick LS jersey won't be windproof and it'll be kind of chilly with a SS baselayer at maybe 55 deg unless you have a wind vest.

Wind jackets are different too - only windproof, no insulation. I hate them because generally speaking the arms flap no matter what. I buy wind vests instead, and layer my arms.

My jackets that I own, in order of preference: Verge, Nalini, Champion Systems. Then older ones from Cannondale, some Italian team thing, and misc wind-only-jackets.

I don't own any Nalini jerseys so I can't vouch for fitment across different Nalini pieces, but it makes sense to get the same size jacket as you have a jersey.

On an aside, I bought 42 winter road shoes (Sidi) since I wanted to have "warm" socks on. I normally wear 41 Sidis. Even with relatively thick socks, my feet swim in the 42s. I only rode them 2x. If I had the choice to do it again, I'd get 41 winter shoes. I figure Sidi will have worked out all the fit things related to "wearing warm socks" etc etc, just like reasonable clothing manufacturers work out "wearing layers under a jacket".

Of course nothing beats actually trying things on, but I never tried any of the above jackets on until they showed up.

Jacket size? It depends on how important maximum speed is to you. The most effective jacket for warmth will be a bit loose and probably flap somewhat in the wind.

If you have to go fast all of the time, then layer on a whole bunch of stuff and zip yourself up like a sausage with the top layer.

I bought the Hammer Nutrition Thermal jacket and while it fits slightly loose in the body, the arms are pretty baggy. The material is stiff enough though that it doesn't flap.

I have a no name adidas cycling jacket in a Meduim that I just bought and while it is somewhat snug it doesnt flap at all. It has draw strings on the sides but the jacket is just at the point where they are almost unable to draw in. If I gain like 10 lbs it probably would be too tight. As of now though it is the only windproof layer I have and boy is it a godsend right now with these cold winter winds.

I vote for a tighter fit if you are still on the fence. much less annoying. I was given a PI size medium jacket for xmas and thought no way this will fit (I'm 6'3") but it is actually perfect. much better than the loose fitting one I had.

The Craft thermal jacket I just got has lined sleeves which make it much easier to put on with a long sleeve baselayer. It's a very snug fitting jacket (ordered a small just like most of my jerseys) but that's what I wanted. Anything loose tends to let cold air get in at the waist or neck. I've worn this jacket down into the low 20's with just a long sleeve baselayer and have been plenty warm. I'll probably add a short sleeve baselayer to that setup for 20 and below though.
