What's this Junk Worth on Ebay?
I have the "groupset" from a 2008 Trek 1.2 that I replaced with the 105 group this past summer. The original parts have about 500 miles on them and are in excellent condition. I've cleaned, lubed and otherwise made this set of parts look like new.
Unfortunately, the highlight of this 3-speed group is the Sora RD. Everything else is one step down (I forget the name, but it's a number). Includes: FD, RD, Shifters, chain, Bontrager triple crank, square tapered end BB, brakes, 8-speed cassette.
My plan is to list it in the spring and try to sell it as the complete group. Any idea what I should expect to get for it? How about sales pitches? Something like "turn an old bike into a modern, SDI-shifting 24-speed rig," perhaps?
Obviously, I'm not targeting the BF crowd. Though of course, y'all are more than welcome to bid.

No gimmicks required. Anyone buying this stuff will know what it's uses are. Just describe it and sell it. 100-200 for groupset?

I wouldn't pay more than $50 for the whole group.

Whenever I'm not sure of the value and I just want it gone, I put it up on ebay with a $1 or $5 starting bid and let the buyers determine its worth. Just be sure to describe it as well as you can (part numbers, size, etc.) and include a few pics (I swear that raises the interest and thus the final bid) and you'll be rid of your "junk" in no time. If there's one thing ebay has taught me, it's that somebody out there is willing to pay $ for just about anything.

Yup, if you don't really care what you get for it, but want some cash and want it gone, $1 starting price, no reserve. If it's not trash, someone will buy it. I'd gladly give you a dollar for the groupset by the way

Like I said, you guys are not my target demographic. Pics do help. The description can be persuasive (esp. to the weaker minded). Think Shamwow.
Maybe when I put it up I'll let you all know and then we can bet on the final selling price.
I'm encouraged by the fact that Shimano parts seem to have escalated quite a bit in price over the past year.

Actually, my daughter was pretty happy with the drivetrain. About the only problem is that it requires frequent adjustment. Once you figure that out, the stuff works fine. Just think--20 years ago that would have been considered pretty good stuff.

Blast from the Past
I sold an old Ultegra groupset last year and made enough to up the bike to 10 speed. Probably helped that i had a like new set of brifters (god i hate that term). I havn't checked in a while, good to hear that Shimano is up a bit, have some more vintage stuff I may part with. For the longest time you could list a turd, and if it said Campy on the side have a bidding war.

I agree with the Craigslist idea. It's free and if nobody wants it after a couple of weeks, then you can throw it up on ebay. But be prepared to make minimal $$ and lose some of it to listing fees and paypal fees. My personal experience has been than no group that includes STI shifters would ever be worth less than $100 if it only has 500 miles of use on it.

Good suggestions on the CR listing. Thanks. $100 or more would be great. I paid less than $400 for the 105 group, so it's pretty much all gravy.
The 1.2 is a sweet little road bike with the upgrade, BTW. It shifts and feels better than my OCR-1 for some reason. I like the frame better, too. The downside is that it's my daughter's bike, and she always drops me like a hot potato when we ride together. I'm 51 and she's 19, so I have to resort to treachery to keep up.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Correct. Sometimes, just for entertainment, I go on ebay and search for completed listings of "broken..." or "damaged..."
I've seen cracked Zipp wheels with bent spokes (only the hub would be useable imo) sell for almost $200.

Yeah, that's the whole point of auction sites. If you can get one guy to fall in love with your item, you'll do surprisingly well. As I said, pics and descriptions help. I know--I like to buy used xc skis on Ebay, and it can get irrational.
