Georgetown (D.C.): a $4500 Rival bike, pain on the Exorcist stairs, micro art
Beautiful crisp winter Saturday in Washington, D.C. Ventured to Georgetown to celebrate my wife's birthday with the kids. I don't ride in this area, but I saw one or two brave roadies who seemed as one with the considerable traffic. Good hill workout potential in this area if you don't mind the risk.
Here's a $4500 Rival bike at Revolution (actually quite beautiful, I think). I had my 8-yr old son stand in front of the window and I asked him "which parts on this bike are also on mine?" He pointed to the Rival crank. Correct!
Here's the Bicycle Pro Shop window with some premium offerings:
We decided to run the Exorcist stairs a few times. Now, I'm no Alberto Contador, but I do climb between 1500 and 2500 feet for each of my regular 20 - 30 mile rides. When I get sore it's usually my calves and hamstrings. Two days after running these stairs a few times my quads are still sore. I think I'm going to add stair running to my offseason training repertoire.
"The 75 stairs and its three landings are the equivalent of a five story building..."
"A traditional test of physical fitness for any Hoya is to run "the Exorcist stairs". Made famous in the 1973 horror classic written by Georgetown alumnus William Peter Blatty (C'49), the dark, narrow stairs are a part of the climactic scene in the movie, where a priest rids himself of the devil by hurling himself out the window of a house and down the steeply sloped stairs to his death."
Finally, my wife's main reason for requesting Georgetown, the Willard Wigan Exhibit at the Parish. Difficult to describe Wigan's microscopic artwork except to say that it does not seem possible (yes, that's the eye of a needle):

I like riding over Key Bridge from Arlington to scoot through Georgetown on my way up to Bethesda via Tunlaw/New Mexico Ave & back down through Rock Creek Park. Beautiful part of the city!

You're lucky. On this particular Saturday, with the sun shining and the cold air biting, those shops were beckoning. Not a customer in sight. My kids started groaning the moment they saw me snapping pics so I knew I would not get inside. Another day perhaps.

I think we've finally found a color that is more hideous than Bianchi celeste; this is coming from a person who rides a Bianchi.
Stem is unflipped, dork disk, 11-27 (or is it 28) cassette, a.k.a. b**** gears. Just saying
That Time RXR Ulteam looks pretty inviting, however, in the garish, poser-like way that suits me
