Need help with odd computer mounting

I have a Garmin Forerunner 405 that I want to make a permanent mount for as it is much nicer than the 20 buck cateye I have on the bike now. Because its a watch it pretty bulky looking and I cant mount on the handlebar like most people because my aero bars are in the way. Here are the two things I'm thinking about

1. Mount with a nub that goes from the aero bar extension to the space between the two bars that would allow the watch to be mount parallel with the handlebars. Have found something like this.

2. Rig a contraption that would attach to the stem then go forward over the handlebar and have a position to mount the watch just to the front of the handlebar. However I have no idea where to get weird handlebar crap like this

Like this? (Excuse my rubber flashlight mount).

It's the bdopcycling.com Sooper Deluxe cut down:

Pull the plastic plugs out of the ends of the carbon tube, cut down carefully to just short of the width you need, reinsert the plugs, mount.

I can lift the bike by it. Looks clean, looks good, for a mount. And, I think it's exactly what you're getting at. You could just get the normal Dashboard Genie too...but I wanted the heavy flashlight to not budge PERIOD (I hate when the light vibrates at night). I like the symmetry of the two arms too, but that's just me.

The 64 dollar question is, will it fit inside the mount for your aerobars? You can snug the arms right up to the stem, they're 10mm thick.

it was your post about the flashlight that got me started with this nonsense however I have no room to the inside the aero bars because they are snugged to the stem and can't be moved out because of a diameter change in the bar. I like that piece I just need it to mount on to the stem instead of the handlebar. Really I getting pretty close to finding some scrap Al in the shop and hashing something out.

Dang, how I love starting people down Nonsense Road :) Good luck, you sound like you'll get something figured out.
