Long Distance Oriented Steel Frames ?

I really wanted a Salsa Pistola but it looks like the 20% off sale i was waiting for won't include frames.

Light, Steel , Relaxed geometry is what i seek.

What's your budget and what do you consider light for a frame?

Epicus07 01-15-10 09:00 PM

Ideally built up it would be around 19 lbs. Although my current ride is 23 lbs so anything lighter than that would be fine. I'm not looking to spend more than 650-700$

Thanks

Marinoni.

Surly Pacer could fit the bill. About $450, and 4.5 lbs.

Soma has a road frame around $400, sometimes less on special. A Gunnar is around $750 and around 4 pounds. These are prices without a fork.
Have you looked at Jamis? Some steel bikes made of Reynolds and priced pretty low.

I did many long rides on my Surly Pacer. I've since moved on to a Gunnar Sport. Gunnar frames usually sell cheap on ebay.

You could go to the Long Distance forum and see what people are riding over there.

In particular, have a look at the Your Century Bicycle(s) thread. It's a sticky at the top.
