A question about crash injuries - quadricep contusion
Two weeks ago, I rode into a parked car at speed. Didn't see it coming. Just hit it. Took out the trunk, and broke the rear window with my head. Ambulance ride. Emergency room. Trauma ward. CAT scans.
Nothing broken and I walked (slowly) out of the hospital the next day.
I got major contusions on my quadriceps. I just stopped limping. Doctor said no worries stay off it (right, I'm a first grade teacher) and do some stretching. I still don't have range of motion in my legs. Fine for walking, any other bending not.
The problem is that quadricep contusions are a common rugby injury. I can't find anywhere that it says how long until I can return to cycling - just how long until I can play rugby.
Anyone ever get quadricep contusion? And does cycling help or hurt the healing process?
Also, is it normal after being pretty banged up (but not broken) for bruises to pop up in places I didn't even know I was hit?

You can start cycling as soon as you feel like you can take it. Movement of your hip and knee will help the healing by causing circulation. Just don't try to do anything that's too strenuous to your qauds. Keep them moving more and more as you can and in about six weeks it should be a lot better.

My quads still feel tight. I don't have full range of motion - that common quad stretching exercise where you grab your foot I can't do. I asked my doctor, he didn't seem concerned. He said stretching is good.
I'm not limping any more. Hurts a little after prolonged standing.
Bottom line: If I get on a stationary bike and it doesn't hurt, am I good to ride? As of last week, it did hurt.
