Tri saddle on a road bike?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tri saddle on a road bike?

I noticed that christian vande velde's bike from last years ToC had a triathlon saddle.

Is it because he prefers to sit a little forward that most people? Or is it because he was planning on breaking away that day so he's prepared to be in a time trial position for an extended time? Or does he just prefer tri saddles?

Saddles are so personal, I imagine it's a bit of all those things.

I have never seen a saddle like that on a tricycle. Your kids are spoiled.

Tri saddles just have a little more padding in the nose. No reason you can't use one on a road bike if you find it comfortable.

My wife's saddle on our tandem is a tri saddle, primarily because the Fizik Vitesse only comes with carbon rails in the tri version.

I'm thinking of putting one - IST Adamo - on my road bike as I find that I usually ride with my hips rolled forwards and so get a lot more taint pressure.
