What bar Width are you Riding?

I always felt a bit wide on my handlebars. Well, after I looked up the brand, I realized my Forte Precision is a 50 cm bar. Seems a bit wider than I see being sold.

I'm 6' tall and medium build - Joe average. What would you think is a typical bar width for someone my size? What do you ride? Thanks!

50 cm? Are you sure?? Road bars?? I didnt think they made 50's, most folks your size would use 44 if you have an average frame. I use a 42 but I have a narrow frame in spite of being 6 feet tall.

MTB bars are over 50cm, but not any Forte' Precision road bars.

6'4", 44cm bars

bretthammy 01-20-10 04:26 PM

6'2" riding 42's, I like them better than the 44's I had before

WR I figured something wasn't quite right with the OP's numbers (unless he is riding a flat/mtb bar).

pdedes 01-20-10 04:47 PM

5-10, 42's

Pilsley 01-20-10 04:56 PM

I used to have a set of 50cm touring bars, they were Performance brand. Sounds like you got yourself some.

Way too wide if your not using a bag up front.

Nate552 01-20-10 04:56 PM

42's 5' 9"

mike868y 01-20-10 05:13 PM

5'2" 40cm

mzeffex 01-20-10 05:13 PM

5'9" 42 cm. Had 44. These are much better. Got the non ergo bend, weight savings, and narrower width. 3 birds with one stone.

roy5000x2 01-20-10 05:18 PM

6'2" 44 cm.

I should start a spin off thread about how long people's seat posts are...

Doesn't have as much to do with 'build' as it does shoulder width. Has absolutely nothing to do with height.. FWIW I ride 42s, c-c.

Edit:: I suppose bar width might be loosely correlated with height simply because a taller person will tend to have proportionately wider shoulders, but even there... there's a lot of variation.

VA_Esquire 01-20-10 05:24 PM

5'10 44cm bars
I have really broad shoulders

mzeffex 01-20-10 05:35 PM

Oh I might add on my cross bike I ride a 38.

Bob Dopolina 01-20-10 05:41 PM

178cm and 44cm c-c.

Mt breathing feels constricted on a 42cm.

My should width is 42cm, so i ride a 42cm bar center-to-center.

I've never seen a bar wider than 46cm c-t-c myself, but i could be wrong.

rangerdavid 01-20-10 07:40 PM

i'm 5'10" and am riding a 42. I'm thinking about dropping down to a 40,but i haven't decided yet.

umd 01-20-10 07:50 PM

Just in case you were curious, Nitto 177's come in a 48cm width: http://www.velo-orange.com/nimo177nba.html

42cm bars. I'm a pretty average width 5'6" tall.

Jynx 01-20-10 08:57 PM

42 cm

khatfull 01-20-10 09:02 PM

6'0". Currently on a 40cm Ergosum, previously on a 40cm Ergonova that's pretty much 38cm at the hoods. Comfortable on either. I have very narrow shoulders for a 6' guy.
