Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2010 Cycling Shots - Where Do you Ride?

Here are a couple of photos from the local circuit (35km) that I ride in the mornings before work.

Obviously, it is summer here in Australia, and perfect weather for riding in the early mornings.

Hope you enjoy......

Where is your cycling backyard?

North Head towards Sydney City

Harbord Head to Manly Beach

Long Reef to Dee Why (I live on the RHS of the ridge)

These are my Cycling In Australia photos ... all around the area where I live. I may add more later today or tomorrow from today's ride.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/1430288...7622345234456/

These are my Audax Australia 2009/2010 photos ... taken on Audax Australia events. So far they've just been taken around Victoria.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/1430288...7622681266839/

This is my Australian Adventure collection ... a whole collection of sets of photos of Australia.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/1430288...7602419256784/

Now ... hmmm ... let's see ... I don't think I've actually put this one up on BF yet. This is me in Marysville. You may know Marysville as one of the towns that was destroyed in the Victorian bushfire last year. They are making some effort to rebuild, and it is still a nice ride up there and back.

BTW ... check out my Summer in the Southern Hemisphere thread for more photos, etc:

Botto's pic does seem familiar. But hey, all of the Netherlands is flat with sheep on it.

Here's the Oostmolendijk right outside of Ridderkerk (Netherlands)

Looks great. I should do longer rides than my 25km commute.

Hardly any bikes today though. They're all scared of the possibility of rain or snow.

We had a nice week last week, rainy, sure, but in the 40s! On Friday, I took an alternate route commute and had a lovely peaceful moment...

Certainly beat the snow.

True. Though I trashed my rear tube and need to get me a new one tomorrow morning. I am thinking about rerouting the commute and make it a 30km ride instead of 25. Could take me along some interesting places.

20 miles today in beautiful conditions; no wind, mild temp, rolling hills with a few climbs, hardly any cars

I have Raynaud's too. I usually wear heavy fleece gloves with mittens, wool socks plus booties and make sure my ears are covered. If I feel bad when I get home, I have microwavable socks and mittens and then might get in the bath.
