Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why did Trek do this to me?

So I was surfing the web and decided to take a look at the Madone 4.5 I plan on buying in spring, and I find this: https://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/road/2_series/25u/

Now I'm in a pickle. Do I get a low end carbon with 105/Tiagra, or a higher end aluminum with full ultegra? At this point I am leaning towards the 2.5. Better components/wheels and with my 300lb frame I can use all the help I can get. Anyone hear of a price yet, as Trek has nothing on their website. I still have time but damn that 2.5 looks good.

300 lbs is a lot for a bike frame. Figure on 3-4 for aluminum, 2-4 for carbon.

It'll likely be overpriced. What kind of riding do you intend on?

That's a great looking bike.

What's the over/under for the amount of time it takes Waterrockets to come in here and poop all over this thread? Or is that reserved purely for carbon treks?

In his defense..he bought a used Trek. OP is talking about being the first owner.

Though I wonder the same thing.

Doesn't show that the 2.5 is available in the US. The site you're on is for Australia.

I remember my friend that went to TrekWorld talking to me about that bike almost a year ago. It sounded great, but I have yet to see it in the US market. I hope it comes around...

I upgraded to a '09 4.7. Iwas in the same situation. I figured that for a few hundred more it would be worth it. The '09 4.7 has full Ultegra and the same paint scheme as the '10 4.5. Talk to your LBS and see what they can still get in the '09's.

Not fair to call his experienced racer advise "poop".
We regard WR as a "testicle advisor"on the mechanics/ergonomics of Trek bikes.

300lb's is the weight limit on all Trek frames (according to the manual), you should be fine on either carbon or aluminum.
