Force shifter question/ID

I picked up some sram force shifters on clearance for my first bike build. I know they're not 2010 but I'm not sure what year they are. The part # is 00.7015.017.000, is there anything obvious that I can look for to see what I have?
Thanks for any help.

Look like 2008-2009, which I think were the same.

2008 and 2009 were not the same. 2009 Force and Rival got the Red features like adjustable reach, zero-loss front, alternative cable routing, etc.

Roll back the top of the hood above the brake and see if there's a 3mm socket there for the reach adjustment. If so, it's 2009, if not, it's earlier.

2009 if the DoubleTap paddle looks like 2010 Force/2009 Rival/Red without the graphics.

2008 (or before) otherwise.

Thanks for the help. I don't see any reach adjustment, so I guess I have 2008 or older shifters. I'm building a CX/Commuter that will hopefully be used in a century this year. I think I'd be better off just getting some currnt Rival shifters at about the same price. Any thoughts? Thanks for any advice.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=135614http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=135613http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=135612http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=135611

how much did you get these for if you don't mind me asking

also these are 2008, for 2009 the doubletap words are written on the inside of the levers* and the carbon weave looks diff.

I think you would be "better off" just using what you have.

AngryScientist 02-02-10 06:59 AM

what would make you think that a group lower but newer would be better? i would definitely stick with the force if you already actually own them,

Where did you get them closeout? I picked up a pair of 2008 force shifters as well. They are still sitting in the box, but I really cant use them.... figure I may as well just go return them

They were $370 and I can return them.

2010 Rival has zero loss and reach adjustability; I don't think my Force has those features. I'm thinking of running a compact road crankset and am not sure of what benefit the 2010 Rival trim position on the big ring would give me. If this sounds wrong, please let me know. Admittedly, I'm very new to this and it's why I'm here. Thanks for the help ID'ing these components.

That's way too much. You can get better for less. Even performance has 2009 rival shifters (yes, these are better than 2008 force) for much less: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...00_20000_66002

A quick search turns up the 2010 force shifters for $399: http://store.icyclesusa.com/shared/S...rce=googlebase

I'm sure you can do better than that, too.

If you do want 2008 force shifters, I'd be happy to sell you my mildly used ones for a whole lot less than that.

Crap. That's what I thought. I'm not an astute shopper. I'll get this thing built by Christmas. :o

my suggestion... scan craigslist, you can find virtually new 2010 rival for ~200
