Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Funny you should post that today - just yesterday I saw a Centurion for the first time in what seemed like AGES. I'd totally forgotten about them. Interesting paint effects, by the way.

Here's mine. Brand new, and rather disappointing, retro-wise. I was talked out of getting a quill stem, so there's a big swinging strike one it seems. Made-to-measure geometry (a "number of limitations," said the guy who did my fitting, meaning old, stiff and weak, presumably) resulted in the un-classic slope on the top tube, so there's strike two. I'm guessing the modern 11-speed groupset will count as a foul ball. Maybe I get a couple of balls for the box rims and shiny, classically laced spokes? I know it's not a hit, but might anything else grant me a walk? Or did we totally strike out, neo-retro-wise?

I've been following your build thread and you have nothing to be ashamed of cause it turned out awesome. Maybe not retro but it's an awesome steel bike.

In silver - that's quite a find! I looked all over for simple silver hubs that were compatible with the groupset we both got. Didn't want to spend too much on them, and those seem reasonable, and VERY good looking!

Thanks! I am really happy with it, too - and most happy with the way it fits and works. I don't notice much difference when I'm just cruising around, but whenever I want to give it the gas, it just feels so great. It's just fun dealing with the way we want to categorize things - people will say "that's kinda retro," and I'll smile and say "kinda."
What I was going for as much as anything in this new sportive/endurance bike (signed up for the GFNY!) was non-bulbous, bright and shiny, and some might say the result is just coincidentally retro-looking. My other bike (which I got because I wanted to get into local club racing) is all modern aero carbon dark and matte, so this new one certainly seems retro in comparison.
