Importance of matching BB with crankset manufacturer?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Importance of matching BB with crankset manufacturer?

I'm looking at a SRAM Rival crankset, but it comes with an FSA BB. Any negative results from mixing these components (tight fit, etc) or should it work just the same as if it were GXP?

I don't think that'll fit, but a set of GXP BB cups is only like $30.

Aside from looking roughly similar, they are not the same dimensions and are not compatible. Actually not all FSA external bottom brackets are compatible with each other, so it's not a brand thing, it's a model thing. However, I believe that some FSA BBs are close enough to Shimano to be compatible.

Just get a GXP BB, as the above poster said, they are cheap.

umd is correct. The FSA BB will not work as Sram crank spindles taper on the non-drive side. As for FSA and Shimano, I've mixed those, though they are technically different.
