Your first (metric) century

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first metric century was on a charity ride over in Sulfur Springs. It was a fairly flat course, so no big problem, just kept pedaling until I was done (on my single-speed cruiser, by the way). Even got to talk to a friendly lady for a few miles along the way, which is unusual.

BTW - you keep good company, that's the most eclectic group of riders I've ever seen.

edit: the guy in the flannel isn't "fred", he's "grunge" all the way!
Eclectic? How so?

The flannel guy was going at my pace most of they way, but he didn't seem to be suffering like me. I totally hit the wall

Eclectic, from Dictionary.com
2. made up of what is selected from different sources.

As in the group seems to be a mix of more serious riders (serious as defined by riding clipless pedals), yourself, and the grunge guy - no offense to either of you or anyone else in the group.
Did you all ride together or split up?

I know the definition, I just didn't see what it was about the group. We were just two guys trying out a training ride for the first time. But riders in LA are very mixed, roadie or not.

The group didn't stay together, the faster guys just waited for me every few miles and then took off again.

Me too. I never heard the term until years after I had done 100 mile rides.
