Need computer recomendations

I'm looking for a new bike computer, and there are a few things that are a must. All the "basic" functions, plus cadence, and preferrably wireless. A thermometer would be a nice addition, but not necessary.

I've heard the wireless computers sometimes are not very good however...so if I get a wired model, I'm sure there are plenty of choices. If anyone has had good luck with a wireless model, please share!!

My bike is Shimano Flight Deck compatible, and I know that computer can be used wireless, and has those functions, but are they any good? I have not heard the best things about it...

Thanks!

I've had one of these for 5 years. It has what you're looking for and Cateye makes great stuff. I've never had any problems with it being wireless.

I used a wired Cateye Astrale 8. This may be discontinued. I bought one recently from Nashbar or Performance for $30. I generally am more interested in my cadence than my current speed and this model allows the primary display to be the cadence. The current one as I remember only shows speed as the primary display, but I may be mistaken. Cadence, Average speed and Max speed are what I like to see and this unit gives them all.

My first one lasted a long time. I ride near the coast a fair amount and the electric contacts needed cleaning fairly often and I may have scrubbed them to the point that contact wasn't good. Never the less I got probably 10 years use out of it. Liked it enough to replace it with the version that replaced my original. I didn't want to pay for the wireless version and there may have been the display issue.

I would recommed the VDO z1. Has everything you are looking -

+1 I use the MC 1.0 model (wired with most of the same features... about $100) and I love it. The altitude and total elevation gain are fun facts for your ride, the temperature is nice when you want to know why you're suffering so much, and knowing the gradient gives you bragging rights (or an excuse to shift down a gear).

i use an edge 305 and it does everything you want but temperature, plus it has elevation, grade, heart rate, gps, connects to a home computer to review data, can input routes. some people say they're on sale at best buy for $75, i got mine on ebay for about 180 with the sensor and heart rate strap.

Garmin Edge 500 if it's within your price range. Has thermometer. Lots of training benefits.

I have two bike with the flight deck and never had a problem.

The first bike is ten years old and still on the first battery.

The second is about a year old and has wireless and no problems.

The gear display is a nice feature and you get cadence without extra senors.

Don't know why people dislike them?
