Does Carbon flex out over time?

Been reading old threads for a while, but still haven't found an answer. Does a carbon bike become a noodle over time? Bike in question is a Fuji C4 frame with maybe 10k(Like to ride without a computer most of the time) on it.
Starting to find my bike a little too flexie at times. But, then again, it might just be me(And that is another story in itself.)

Maybe because it's so light ? No worries with my vintage steel frame.

Congrats on the BF catch phrase of 2010, so far...

Sorry, about the type-o people. My bad, please don't put a stick in my spokes.

I can remember hearing complaints a few years back about certain bikes becoming noodles over time.

Everything I have read says they become more flexy over time, but don't let that be the end all of your decision on them. Some manufacturers will give you a really long warranty, and no frame will last forever.

However the real question is does carbon flew out over time?

I've been riding mine for almost five years, and it has still retained its uncooked noodles form.

my colnago carbitubo flew out. two carbon downtubes, all carbon construction into alu. lugs. wonderfully stiff the first year and wild looking to boot. i don't think the resin used was all that great as it indeed became very flexy over time. i sold it to some schmuck in new jersey and shipped it via air.

Oh. I rode a Trek OCLV, purchased in 1994, until 2008. I would still be riding it but I broke it in a crash. The ride characteristics, to the best of my knowledge, never wavered until I broke it.

Water!
How many times have we stressed that water/rain (over a short time)delutes the epoxy resin holding the carbon fibres together.
Ever see how that stiff spagetti reacts when you place it in a pot of water?Wear a nice suit in the rain?Or when George Castanza comes out of a cold swimming pool?

spry 02-12-10 04:23 PM

" FLEW" is the correct terminology

Forget
Long
Exposure to
Water

This reaction occurs much more rapidly on hot summer days.

Carbon is an unreliable and untested material. Don't let the hipsters tell you otherwise.

spry 02-12-10 04:39 PM

Plenty of old gas pipe out there for cheap for a reliable, weather resistent race bike frame.
Save that CF for a bulletproof vest to wear in the upcoming recession financial riots.

Torvidicus 02-12-10 04:47 PM

To stop carbon flewing don't you need steel wheels to keep it anchored?

Daytrip 02-12-10 07:38 PM

I'm not nearly as flewable as I used to be.

Good advice.
