Average Weight of Road Cyclist
thought it would be interesting to find the average weight of posters to different threads such as commuters; 50 + and road cycling. if its actually interesting I'll share the results with each group. 1st 10 responders get included except if I can figure out how to make a poll. can a poll calculate an average? just reply with your weight and I'll do the math. I'll go 1st

My average wait is 5 minutes for the group to get ready.
Although at one group last year, the average wait was 25 min !

Someone said in another thread that the average road cyclist weighs 150lbs, so it must be true.

145. But you know, you really need the height as well. Maybe poll for BMI. That would tell you a lot more.

BMI isn't very useful either. We all know about professional athletes who are nothing but muscle yet are "obese" by BMI standards. But there is also a recent Mayo Clinic study that showed that many people with a normal BMI are effectively overweight because they have a large amount of "hidden" body fat. Their bodies have the same elevated risk factors as obese people.

I don't have enough data points to garner a reliable average. I weighed about 173.4 this morning, but I'm positive it's different now. I'm not sure by how much, so I can't equate that into my average. Well, maybe I can have an average vs data points, but an average vs time I cannot.

165, 5'8". Looking to lose another ten pounds in the next month or so. 9 percent body fat. Just did some cycling studies for the college and they measured all the crap out. I have a 56 bpm resting heart rate though, and 110/60 blood pressure. 85 percent of Vo2 max is at 174 bpm. and on the Rpe chart I rated myself at about a 17 or an 18. It sucked. Had to keep a cadence of 50 the entire time. event though I told them that 100 would provide alot more reliable results because i would be able to preserve my legs longer and put more power out without feeling as tired. But no they said they didnt want to have to figure out the equation at 100 rpm.

I am mainly a Tri Athlete, so I probably don't count, but...
At peak racing condition, I am 6', 170 lbs, and about 9.5% BF according to the fancy bathroom scale, which I don't think is too bad for 49.
Right now I am 4 lbs and .5% over that, but I haven't really started the hard training yet.

BMI is silly enough, total weight is even more useless.
A better measure would be body fat percentage.
That being said, 145.

I'm gonna screw up the average here too: 127 lbs.
BTW, you'll need to average at least 30 people to come up with a figure of some meaning.
