Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's been upper 20's low 30's here and the riding is ok, but now we have ice and snow on the roads again....this long winter is really getting old. I'm not so sure about this global warming thing.

I used to think 60 Degree weather was still cold. After i started cycling, i favor 60 degree weather because i don't need arm/leg warmers, and especially with clear skies and a sunny day, makes the world seem bigger. With the fog and the cloudiness, the world seems so small.

Flew to San Diego for work for a few days,
It was 75.
Came home to Maryland,
It was 15 with a foot of snow and an inch of gravel on the road.
Time to move?

I want to ride too! But I had surgery a week ago and it would be a bad thing to do.

Grass is green, leaves on the trees, water's not frozen. You're in frigging UPLAND. what'd it do, plummet to 60 degrees? It's a wonder they didn't all die....

I scoff now, but I remember when I lived in santa monica being proud of myself because I went for a ride and saw a thermometer thad said it was 56. I'm hoping it will get back into the 30s Saturday and I'll probably go out.

Hahaha! 50's are no problem. I do crack up when I see other rides in full finger gloves and booty covers at 60 degrees!...now the bugs are another thing! I've been covering up cause the bugs are eating me alive. I rode through the mountains lastweek and got bit twice, by what, I dunno. But I got a nice big knot on my kneecap right now, and the bees are killing me. I'm swelling more and more with each sting! Couple years ago I got stung 4 times in 2 months! That's a few extra grams of "swollen" I have to carry around on the bike!

Unless California is gripped by Arctic weather I don't want to hear about how 50 degrees is "cold".

I can relate. Just the other day, I had to walk the bike on several occasions because there was snow up to hubs on the unplowed MUP. I might have managed if it was all loose stuff, but there were big chunks of frozen snow thrown in for a good measure. Once the momentum is lost there's no option but to walk until you find a spot with less snow. The spot has to be large enough to actually gain some speed on so you don't have to walk again at the next snow bank, which is just few meters ahead. My average speed was about 11km/h, which just proves Sigma computers suck.

Oh yes, I can relate.
