Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tret?

Matchbox and hotwheels cars with factory mistakes are worth more.
Coins with stamp mishaps are worth more.
Stamps with printing errors are worth more.

Bikes with a misapplied decal? I doubt it.

You may wonder what I was smoking when I posted this... but I'd wonder what the guys at Trek were smoking when they put this bike together.
Well, that's a good way to instill confidence in a potential buyer...

So someone should be willing to pay what the bike was worth 3 years ago despite it having 2K miles on it and a decal mistake?

So maybe it's not worth anything extra, but it IS damn funny. Just how do you accidently do that?

What I want to know is how the hell did he not get a major discount on that when he bought it?

Agreed, it's a bike, not a coin.

I think the seller got it pegged. Must have been 4:20 on a Friday afternoon at the factory.

My bike had a bubble in the decal. It must be worth more!

Maybe he's trying to go after 'collector lust' to milk more money out of a sucker.

Don't know why not, though, if you found the right buyer. I mean, I wouldn't pay extra for it, but collectors are weird. I do a talk radio show, and occasionally I have collectors on the air to talk about stuff like this. There's often a 50 percent premium for factory mistakes on Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars.
Could be genuine, too. My dad had a'68 Olds on which the letters on the fender spelled out ODDSMOBILE, and i've seen a pickup where the grill said FROD. The truck may have been faked, but my Dad bought the Olds new.
