TT, climber or sprinter?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

TT, climber or sprinter?

Often asked myself what type of elite rider I rather be given the choice of being an extraordinary time trialist, climber or sprinter? What would you choose and why?

Would be cool to be a killer TT guy. Get to inflict pain and suffering at the front of a field, not be constantly stressed and looking for a wheel. Funny thing is I've always hated TT's.

I'd want to be a sprinter as it seems most of the top teams are built around sprinters. They just let someone do most of the hard work and save themselves for the sprint. If only it were that easy.

I would love to be an elite climber, you know what they say you can't win a tour without being able to climb. Plus its the best pain you can feel and when you get to the top of what you are climbing it feels great.

High level domestique. Martin Vandenbosche comes to mind. A man's got to know his natural abilities. Better to be tied to the best than be a forgotten sprinter or team leader.

to be a legend in this sport, you have to be good at everything.

as for me, I love climbing. you don't get to coast, there's no chance for a free ride, if you stop working, you stop moving.

It's enjoyable, sure, but the grass is always greener.

Yeah, Robbie McEwen sure is a good time trial guy.

TT

All I do is 56 or 112 mile TTs anyway. With a swim before and a run afterwards.

I'm too tall and heavy for a climber, and my bad knee wouldn't let me apply enough power for a decent sprint. I'm happiest holding a high average speed over flat or undulating course at about 85 cadence.

TT

My team was doing chase the rabbit exercises for a few miles. The only time I enjoyed myself was when I was the one being chased and riding with invisible aerobars. Climbing would be nice too, but I'd have to lose 50 lbs

I love being a rouleur. Good at TTs, rolling road races, with the ability to sprint small breakaway groups.

World class sprinter hands down, team built around me, I'm lead down to the finish line, and once there I'd really only have to work for 500 meters or so.

Besides, chicks dig a sprinter.

I'd like to be a climber. Sure it may hurt going up, but when you reach the top it you know it was all worth it.

TT.

Nothing like sucking down pain and pushing - plus, full control over your performance in your hands. Added bonus - bad-ass helmet and bad-ass bikes.

Sprinter, because I like to talk smack.

Realistically I'd love to be a super domestique/leadout man. The anonymity of such a vital job seems attractive somehow.

I fall into this catagory, sprinting is a blast but I prefer to be out at the front setting pace and hey sometimes the leadout guy gets the win!

Yeah, that's me too. I'm equally adept at all three.

Only I do all three really, really slowly.
