Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well that was short lived

The forecast only called for a 10% chance of rain until 2:00 today, then rain was to be imminent for the rest of the evening. Here in So Cal, 10% generally means it's going to be cloudy, but there isn't a snowball's chance in hell it will actually rain. Only planning to be out until 1, I decided to go ahead and roll my new Kinlin wheels which have less than 100 miles on them (I have been riding my old Titans on rainy days). Well, it turns out that for today in Pasadena, 10% meant it would be a light drizzle for about 20-30 minutes and then a torrential downpour for 5-10 minutes, then the cycle would repeat over and over all day.

It wasn't until I got home that I realized my brake pads had picked up enough road grime to rub the rims just past the braking surface, removing a thin strip of the anodizing. So now I have these uneven silver streaks on my brand new wheels C'est la vie!!!

I wouldn't taken a chance riding in the rain in LA/SoCal exactly because of that. There isn't enough/regular rain to wash away the junks on the road, and when it rains, all kinds of stuff just stick.

Entire braking surface needs to be an even gleaming silver, you're not riding in rain enough.

Yep, although when I mentioned it to my and she asked me if that meant I need to buy new rims, I hesitated before answering "No, they'll work just fine".

No, these streaks are below the braking surface. The braking surface is machine and silver already. It was bound to happen rain or shine, though, because my brake pads are slightly taller than the braking surface amnyway.

See, you shouldn't have given up the racing... picture perfect weather in Dominguez Hills. Not a drop of water out of the sky. Temps were great--shorts & arm-warmers only. Plenty of sweat. Missed a good one.

same, went out early today (9AM - 1PM) because of the mid/late afternoon rain forecast. it was cloudy and windy all the time. had to wear windbreaker and leg warmers though. 50's is just to cold for us here.haha..not too many cyclist came out. just no fun biking without the CA sun.

I just don't see the point of paying money to ride around the block multiple times all by myself until a guy in a striped shirt tells me to pull off with the look of a farmer putting his injured horse out of its misery.
